- Siege Weapons -
The Trebuchet
The trebuchet, also known as the trebucket, was just one of the Medieval
weapons known as leverage artillery, which also included the perrier,
the war wolf and "the witch from whose head the ropes hang like
hair".
The trebuchet, which was extensively used in the Middle Ages, was introduced
in Europe in about 500AD while its first use in England seems to have
been in 1216AD at the Siege of Dover. However, the introduction of gunpowder
and cannons to the battlefield left the trebuchet redundant in later
times.
