~ The Glaive ~
The Glaive was very similar to the Bill but the head of the weapon
was usually a long, broad blade on a wooden shaft. The soldier could
thrust the glaive in the same manner as one would have with the basic
spear, and in doing so, pierce the armour of a knight, but with its
convex blade it could slice through an opponent and slash the legs of
the horse.
~ The Spear ~
The more traditional spear was still in use at this time. Nevertheless,
texts of the 12th Century describe the use of the Guisarme, a spear-like
weapon with a sharp, convex cutting edge, which had been modified into
a highly effective combination weapon often used by peasants, although
still not as effective as the similar Bill pole arm.
