~ Medieval Weapons ~
- Pole Arms -
~ The Halberd ~
The head of the Halberd weapon, on the other hand, was more akin to
an axe blade than other variants of the pole weapon but was the axe
was downward-angled with the addition of a spear point at the top and
a back spike. When the halberd was swung, this created an immense force
so resulting in considerable damage to any opponent. While a simple
axe would have left a fighter open to attack once he had swung his axe,
the back spikes allowed for him to kill on a back swing. This back spike
was also characteristic of the Bec de Faucon pole arm, the head of which
consisted of a large hammer and would also either feature a steel counterweight
or a buttspike.
